Christmas has never been so dodgy with The Bedroom Philosopher’s A Very Beddy Christmas EP. The single, 12 Days Of Christmas features a gagtastic video that’s been described as “Pissweak World meets David Lynch,” and features cameos by comics Dave Callan, Asher Treleaven and The Suitcase Royale. The video was directed by Carlo Zeccola who recently worked on ABC’s The Slap. The EP and video will be launched at a Tuesday residency in December at the Northcote Social Club.

A Christmas single was always going to be risky, (it ended The Darkness), but Beddy Phil was bent on reinventing these yuletide classics as twisted jingles of social commentary. 12 Days of Christmas may well be the great Australian parody, showing the fallout when the True Love turns crazed ex who still can’t stop mailing shit. Five golden rings become “Five mouldy things,” three French hens turn into “three French hit men” and a partridge in a pear tree becomes “a cartridge from a 303.” Genius, no?
The EP features the new Bedroom Philosopher tune Presents, a smokinly off-beat ode to gifts that evokes Moldy Peaches and the jazz-folk of 70’s Sesame Street. Backing it up is a plethora of Christmas parodies including Little Drummer Boy (bogan rock style), Deck The Halls (Deck The Kids) and Jingle Bells (Jingle Hell). These tracks feature the Beddy Christmas Choir made up of Melbourne groups The Nymphs and Men In Suits (Spooky Men’s Chorale).
The December residency will feature a different support choir each week including the RMIT Occasional Chorale, Choir Straits and Monash University Chorale. He’ll be backed by his red-hot band The Awkwardstra, unveiling the world premiere of Jazz Santa. Next year The Bedroom Philosopher is set to reprise his wildly successful High School Assembly show at Melbourne Comedy Festival. He’s also been announced as the main support for the Dresdon Dolls national tour in January.
